I guess that this will be the first test whether Bush really intends to have a less divisive second term than his first. He SAID all of that during the debates, that he wants more bipartisanship, that he's not going to push the conservative agenda so strongly, etc, but I didn't believe him then. His choice here will strongly influence the rest of his term, and he has to know that. Scalia is too hated by too many to be a reasonable choice. "We should adhere to the text of the constitution..." Yeah, why not permanently mire our social structure in that of the late 1700s, eh? Let's bring back slavery and throw out technology. That internet thingie should just be turned off, because people don't need that much information to live their lives. Bah!
