It's not surprising. In this highly capitalistic country, it's a matter of time before prostitution is legalized or decriminalized. I personally lean in favor of decriminalization because I know how much the state takes advantage of working girls in Nevada, but even legalization is a better system than what goes on in most of the country. What I'd really like to see is the ability of working girls to form unions. That would give them a real say in their working conditions.

The psychologist who took it upon herself to speak for prostitutes I felt was out of line. Especially in legalized prostitution, where safety is guaranteed and profits are somewhat protected, there are many girls who enjoy what they do. They only want those main two conditions met: safety and pay.

What society fears is that it will no longer have the punishment of stigma to deal with prostitution, that once it's legal or decriminalized, the stigma will fade. This is also the argument against sanctioning homosexual marriage. Stigma is a very effective tool of social control.
