poetpainter77's title poem and this poem came to me instead.
Be a Good Girl
the sepia pictures on your mantle
the starch of your bras
the rock candy hidden in your closet
the strict bed
the musks, the powders, the lipsticks, the cremes
the library of shoes
the earrings, the thread
and needles, the cigarettes
buried beneath freshly folded washcloths
these things
a child mustn't investigate
the odd rubber of your girdle
the hatboxes atop your bureau
the shotgun ammunition on the windowpane
the halfdollars in your purse
Be a Good Girl
the sepia pictures on your mantle
the starch of your bras
the rock candy hidden in your closet
the strict bed
the musks, the powders, the lipsticks, the cremes
the library of shoes
the earrings, the thread
and needles, the cigarettes
buried beneath freshly folded washcloths
these things
a child mustn't investigate
the odd rubber of your girdle
the hatboxes atop your bureau
the shotgun ammunition on the windowpane
the halfdollars in your purse
