if it makes you feel any better, mine whistled for well over a year before it ever got near giving out. have you taken out the power supply and given it a good cleaning? that pesky dust can do a number on old computers.
So I cleaned it as best I could, which was probably with the risk of electrocution. I cleaned out evil cousins of dustbunnies and gave the box a few whacks against the wastebasket for good measure. The power supply does seem a bit quieter. We'll see how long this lasts.
