I had to look up information only on this machine, so I'm logged in from home for the first time in about two weeks. Feels weird.
I saw The Village today with my mom. We both liked it. The story kept me interested, but something about it felt familiar. I'm not sure why.
So Saturday I decided to go to karaoke, as it had been a week. I went, I sang a couple of songs. (That guy was there, and he totally ignored me. Heh. I must have wounded his pride or something.) I got bored rather early, so I went home. When I got there, the parking lot was full. I parked next to the dumpster and resolved to re-park after an hour or so, whenever a space opened up.
Now, the area near the dumpster is technically a tow-away zone, even though there are no markings anywhere near there. As I said, I had all intentions of going out and finding a space. But it was late and I was tired. I eventually fell asleep.
The next thing I know, there's pounding on the door and odd sounds coming from the parking lot. I looked outside my window, and a neighbor called up to me: "They towin' yo shit." I ran out, still in my pajamas, and asked the guy, since he hadn't taken the car yet, if I could just compensate him for having to come out there. He said it'd be $75. I asked to whom I should make the check, and he said cash only. I said I didn't have that much cash, and the only way for me to get it would be to visit an ATM, and I couldn't do that without my car. He drove me to the gas station down the street (thankfully open 24 hours, as it was 2:45 in the morning); I withdrew some money; he unhitched my car and I drove home, nearly $100 poorer.
I know it was not smart to park where I did, so I accept the fact that I had to pay some money. I can't bitch about that. What I don't understand is, why is it that I cannot find a parking space near my apartment when I am a resident? And why is it that people can park in that area during the daytime but not at night? (I say this because it had to have been the guard on duty last night who called the tow truck; the guy didn't just happen upon my car.) And why is it that the area isn't marked as a tow-away zone?
I wasn't happy last night; it took me quite a while to get to sleep. But I accept what happened. The money's gone now; there's nothing I can do about it. My mom offered to wait until next weekend to see The Village, but I told her I had to have something to cheer me up.
Oh, and another thing. They're painting the buildings in my apartment complex. The colors? Purple and lime green.
