paper crack
Jun. 24th, 2004 12:47 pmWhile I was out this afternoon, I came across a hobby shop I'd not noticed before. I stopped in and found out that on Mondays, a generally adult crowd comes in and plays Magic during their lunch hour, starting around 11:30. Considering how close this shop is to my workplace, I don't know if I can pass up such an opportunity.

My decks aren't generally of a type to win tournaments, because it can take as many as 10 turns just to get the engine rolling, but once it's going, the odds are in my favor. On the other hand, unless I'm playing against a copy of a tournament-winning deck, I usually have a decent chance of being able to at least put up a fight. People always wonder how I manage to do it, as they seem to have a hard time getting the right mana; part of it is making sure that your deck really is properly landed. (There are some exceptions; I once built a no-land deck. But I took it apart after playing it once; I didn't feel comfortable carrying my Mox Ruby around like that.)

I took it to a competition and eventually chalked up a losing record, but the deck did win against two different people. Those two wins were worth my participation in the competition. Just the look on those guys' faces when the lightning-fast 2/2 cats came blazing across their front lines--I still treasure those looks. Blitzkrieg was a Christmas deck--red, white & green.
