It's about time... it angers me that, in this day when there is a strong drive to end culture-based genital mutilation, that this butchering still takes place at all just so the intersexed can fit in a comfortable "box" for the rest of society.

The organized intersex rights movement has really only been around for ten years, and their first target was the medical community. The primary issue facing people with intersex conditions is the matter of cosmetic "surgery" when it is not medically necessary.

From everything I've read on the topic, the medical community has been quite receptive to intersex activism -- particularly the testimony of adults with intersex conditions who explain that long-term complications and, frequently, impaired or eradicated sexual response, has seriously affected their quality of life.
