I like abbreviated days.

I called into work and told them I'd be there for only a half-day. This morning, for the first time in about a decade, I opened a checking account.

I decided to do this because my dad told me about a car for sale he'd seen yesterday and that it was going at a very good price. (It seemed suspicious to me--the guy had just bought the car last week, but needed to come up with cash all of a sudden--but whatever. As long as it wasn't a lemon.) This meant that I needed to convert my tax return into a spendable form. This meant opening up some sort of bank account.

I realized this morning, as I was getting ready, that I might run into some problems as my driver's license has my old address on it (from when I was still in the process of getting into Michigan and it seemed I'd be living with my sister). Then I got to the bank and saw that to open an account, you not only need a current license (or other form of primary ID) but also a current credit card. This seems like a Catch-22 in many ways.

The guy who helped me, I think, just wanted to get another account toward his quota (I know how banks work, having been a teller for a short time), so he sold me a checking account. I'll even have a debit card.

This is dangerous.

Oh, and after I got back from the bank, my dad took me near where he saw the car yesterday. It's not there anymore--must have already sold.
