I believe there is something behind the veil. Does that make me crazy?

[livejournal.com profile] zenrabbit (probably) thinks I'm crazy. There are things I believe while sober that I should (probably) only believe when I'm intoxicated.

I'll put things this way: I don't believe in using Ouija boards (primarily because I don't believe in disembodied spirits), but let me use it as a metaphor. You use a Ouija board, which is simply a board with symbols and a planchette. A user might "receive signals from beyond," but what are those signals? Merely a perception of movement toward symbols that are recognizable by the brain (alphabetic letters, "yes/no"). The tugging toward the symbols isn't directly understandable by the brain, but it is that tugging that is the true communication.

I pray/hold conversations with God often. I receive signals. I interpret these signals--usually synchronous events--and much like a Ouija planchette my mind will come up with an answer in English. This interpretation is often serendipitous; it's nothing I'm constructing by using syntactical rules. The meaning of the symbol is revealed simultaneously with the symbol itself.

I see the world as a metaphor. The whole of existence is a metaphor. There is something behind the veil, and the veil is permeable.

You and I should talk sometime. I am sure we could learn a lot from eachother. I think I would enjoy dexing with you very much, too.

Well, we've been on that journey before, in some ways, now haven't we? Matter of fact, the last time I had that kind of journey was with you, iirc. It's been wayyyy too long.

Really? Has it been that long?

That was a fun time. I'm glad I shared it with you. (Even though you guys were worried about me periodically.)

I would really like to get your opinion on something that happened to me a few years ago. You can read about it here (http://www.geocities.com/sixty9stickers/ghost.html)

I'd love to. Of course, I don't use AIM, and I hate using the phone in real life.... Email?

I follow ya.
I would not say it is crazy at all. I dont use Quija Boards either.
1) Let us assume that the communication coming through the board is even legitimate; if it is, you have not used any method to know from what source your information is arriving.
2) You do not know if it is true (I know plenty of people who lie, and it would be arrogant to assume spirits/disembodied force fingers cannot).
3) And something you touched on, you are dependant on a tool.
Divination foci for consciousness can be great, but you should be picky about which you use. Because of the rules presented by a Quija Board, you would do much better to just pick up an old tarot deck or something.
"...but wait! Then I wont see something unexplainable that I can string together with a series of other similar experiences as rosary beads to pray upon when I need validation for the reality of Spirit/magic/my own self worth!"
I say stick with talking to the big guy.. at least you know he has a reputation for being a straight arrow. ;)
