I caught this post at actual_liberals regarding Jesse Helms, which led to this and this (The Guardian's obituary). No one wants to malign the dead, but as the poster in actual_liberals said, don't sanitize the man's racist past.

I'd rather malign the dead than sanctify them (like like the media does repeatedly with dead politicians).

Honestly, it's all too easy to give a "balanced" obituary to someone as nakedly awful as Jesse Helms.
