Rumsfeld ordered prisoner held off the books

Pentagon officials tell NBC News that late last year, at the same time U.S. military police were allegedly abusing prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison, U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld ordered that one Iraqi prisoner be held “off the books” — hidden entirely from the International Red Cross and anyone else — in possible violation of international law.

It’s the first direct link between Rumsfeld and questionable though not violent treatment of prisoners in Iraq.

Kennedy won't back Bush impeachment

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., appearing with law professors who want Congress to consider impeaching President Bush over the Iraqi prisoner abuse, declined to endorse the idea himself.

Instead, Kennedy opted for a political plug.

The best way to solve things “is to elect John Kerry,” said Kennedy, appearing beside two Harvard professors at a news conference upstairs from his Senate office.

Teleportation breakthrough made

.Scientists have performed successful teleportation on atoms for the first time, the journal Nature reports.

[...] What the teams at the University of Innsbruck and the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (Nist) did was teleport qubits from one atom to another with the help of a third auxiliary atom.

It relies on a strange behaviour that exists at the atomic scale known as "entanglement", whereby two particles can have related properties even when they are far apart. Einstein called it a "spooky action".

The two groups used different techniques for achieving teleportation, but both followed the same basic protocol.

Police investigate Big Brother fight

Police are to investigate last night's near riot at the Big Brother house in which one contestant threatened to kill another housemate.

Officers from Hertfordshire police launched an inquiry following calls from alarmed members of the public and are studying a video of the live streaming in the early hours of the morning from the programme-makers, Endemol.

[...] The programme was thrown into chaos in the early hours of this morning when trays were thrown, plates smashed and a table overturned. The handle from the Big Brother diary room was also ripped off.

"I'll fucking kill you," Emma yelled at Victor before she was dragged away by another housemate, Dan. "Don't you know who I am?" shouted Victor. "Never fuck with me, Emma... You ain't fucking shit to me, I'll fucking show you!"

As the situation spiralled out of control, panicked Big Brother bosses sent in security guards to separate the housemates for their own safety. Channel 4 cut the live feed to the house between 2am and 3am and two police officers arrived at 3am to investigate the fracas.
