I'm going out with rikhei and another friend of mine from college tonight. We're going to see Capercaillie! *smile* It'll be so nice, especially after this weekend. (Not that I don't love my nieces. But they are a handful and a half.)

New Criticism on Prewar Use of Intelligence

"[O]fficials confirmed that Mr. Tenet had asked the Justice Department to look into whether one or more administration officials had leaked information to the news media disclosing the identity of a covert C.I.A. agent. Mr. Tenet's request was first reported by NBC News.

The agent is the wife of Joseph C. Wilson 4th, a former ambassador to Gabon. It was Mr. Wilson who, more than a year and a half ago, concluded in a report to the C.I.A. that there was no evidence that Saddam Hussein tried to buy uranium ore in Niger in an effort to build nuclear arms."



Condoleeza Rice, on Meet the Press yesterday, was asked about this leak and responded that the administration should "get all the facts" before it takes action. It was pointed out by the host (I can't remember his name) that leaking the name of an undercover U.S. agent is illegal under federal law. Surely someone should be held accountable for this.

And yes, get all the facts. Including why the name was released when it was.

This was exactly why I didn't buy the case in the first place.

[The Sept. 25 letter to Mr. Tenet from the House committee leaders] points to a "dearth" of underlying intelligence about Iraq after 1998 and says intelligence experts held to longstanding assessments about Iraq's capability. "The absence of proof that chemical and biological weapons and their related development programs had been destroyed was considered as proof that they continued to exist," it said.

Capercaillie was awesome! I had a great time. And it was so good to see Josh again. Seeing old friends is like reminding myself of some part of me I'd forgotten long ago.
