Sorry I've been away for a week. Lots of stuff has (or has not) been happening to me and my life. I'm still in the middle of resolving them.

My car is (in the process of?) being repossessed. Yes, I'm becoming just as much of a loser as my penultimate boyfriend. The story is long and (for me) infuriating, but it's as much a product of my own doing as anything else. (I've been unemployed for about seven months, at first just to take a break from working, but now I'm actively seeking employment. You'd think a Grinnell degree would count for something!)

So, that's the story of the week so far. In other news, I'm selling off the bulk of my yet-valuable Magic cards. I don't have many left--I've had many sales like this in the past. But I do still own some sought-after cards, like Consecrate Land and Mind Twist. These, I think, should fetch a pretty penny. Who knows about the other stuff. Reading/researching on eBay has shown me that sometimes a sale nets a BUNDLE, and sometimes really good cards just sit there and don't move at all.

I'm also planning to pawn my old stereo, the one I bought right before my junior year in college. It's basically worthless, so if I see even $30, I'll be pleased.

I've got an idea for a CCG that involves psychotropics. That's it. Right now, it's just an idea. I've got a possible card back design, a few sample creatures, and the eight (nine?) psychoactive substances that can be used as "mana". I don't have any spells or abilities, or special locations, or equipment, or anything like that. Like I say, right now all I have is an idea. But it's fun to work on. (I'm using my rubber stamps to make the cards on regular index cards, and it's worth it to get my fingers inky again.)

Had quite the DXM trip(s) two weeks ago, around my birthday. Some people may not put much stock in the idea that an OTC drug can lend one paranormal abilities, but I feel a lot was revealed to me during that time.

F and I have reaffirmed the idea of me going to Michigan for about six months. I want to be around my family very, very much right now. It'd be timely, too, as two of my elder relatives are in and out of hospitals and hospices.

Saw Unbreakable. Thought it was fucking fantastic. Now that's the way to tell a graphic novel.

Post to which I replied:
Democracy? I'm familiar with the idea, and I believe in the possibility of peaceful change. I'm a registered voter, and I participate in the political process. Geaux me.

Please re-read my original post. My complaint doesn't concern citizens who have problems with some of our government's policies; everyone disagrees with something that the government is doing. I have an issue with people who believe that the entire system is unsalvagably corrupt – people who use language like America is an oppressive fascist-imperialist Orwellian state with complete seriousness. If America's government is truly that bad, is reform a possibility?

Ask a Jew who survived the Holocaust if late-1930s Nazi Germany could have been reformed, or if a revolution against Hitler could have succeeded. My point: if the American government really is an unthinkably awful, oppressive, atrocity committing war machine...wouldn't it be better to move to a country with a more humane, agreeable government?

Or could it be that the people who call our government "fascist" have no idea of what a real authoritarian government would do to them? (How would Stalin, Mao, or Hitler handle the problem of dissent on the internet?)

(See it here.)

My short response )
