He did, but I think the sports metaphor was a cliche. People with fame and power act that way - it isn't like it is particularly unique to athletes.

However, contrast Kilpatrick with Dennis Archer.

I thought the article spoke more about the "captain of the team" attitude, which means you're at the pinnacle of the in-crowd (which means you're popular), and you're used to having people following you around and taking your orders.

Anyone who's acquainted with the happenings of high school can appreciate that.
