This Sunday's cover story in The New York Times Magazine makes plain the threat: The winner of the 2008 presidential election could be decided by flawed, insecure, and hackable electronic voting machines.

Congress is poised to consider a new emergency paper ballots bill next week—but we need to convince them to act right away. I signed a petition urging local, state, and federal officials to require a paper trail for our votes. I hope you will, too.

It's ironic that MoveOn has finally decided that they shouldn't just move on. But good on them for waking up to reality, even 7 years late.

Paper ballots counted by electronic voting machines? Or paper ballots counted by humans?

I'm glad to be a member of MoveOn. They've (we've) done a lot of netroots agitation. I like the way that they use the Internet to aid people in using their First Amendment rights to peaceably assemble and to use their freedom of speech. (However, I do wish they'd give more leadtime on some of their functions.)
