I'm omitting the ones that have the same answer in [livejournal.com profile] netmouse's LJ:

1. What can you cook?

I think I'm most adept at curry-inspired dishes, but can generally cook anything given a recipe.

2. What was your dream growing up? Has it changed?

Not significantly. Shifted to include the notion of "universal acceptance".

6. What was your first impression of me? Has it changed?

My vague recollection is wondering whether you identify culturally as African-American, or if any such identifcation is solely an artefact of your skin color. [Never did actually ask you, mostly because I got too interested in the other more-relevant aspects of your personality. *grin* ]

10. If you saw me walking down the street would you offer me a ride?

Assuming I was driving, yes, I would.

13. What would you do if you were stuck in an elevator with me?

Catch up; it's been waaaay too long since we've chatted face-to-face IRL.

14. Worst thing to ever happen to you (that you can post in public)?

My father passing away suddenly when I was 15.

15. Tell me one weird fact about you

I used to write on a regular basis, but have lapsed almost completely since leaving Grinnell.

17. What if i showed up at your house unexpectedly?

Invite you in and ask if you needed anything.

19. Children: cute or scary?

Only cute in certian contexts; nice when well-behaved (adjusted for age-appropriate expectations); scary if I Can't Give Them Back™.

26. Would you date me? What if I won $10,000 today?

Probably not. I find certain things about you to be off-putting.

30. What's your swearing style?

Polyglot. If I'm swearing in English, watch out, because I'm not bothering to self-censor.

31. Biggest pet peeve?

I like the "willful ignorance" one. But I really do have several lists; which one do you want to know?

34. If you could spend 12 hours with me and ask/do anything you like, what would it be?

Have a really long talk. I have lots of questions I've never had the opportunity to ask (or in some cases, never quite felt comfortable approaching you with them).

35. Do you have an ethical code of conduct for yourself?

Yes, though I've rarely sat down to consciously spell any of it out.

36. What is your favorite aspect of yourself, mentally or physically?

I think one of my best points is my tendency to err on the side of compassion.

I'm a baker, too.

I'd love to go to an amusement park with you.

I love amusement parks! It's been way too long since I've been to one, too.

Physically, my eyes. Weight, age and illness cant change that

What a good point! My editor at Third Wednesday is an octagenerian, and yet he has the most spritely eyes I've ever seen. (Or, more accurately, elven.)

I can generally cook with recipes, although I've been known to mess those up sometimes (like the time I was staying with [livejournal.com profile] quility and I tried making biscuit sticks, but I used baking soda instead of baking powder).

I find certain things about you to be off-putting.

Fair enough! I've never claimed to be everyone's cup of tea.

Have a really long talk.

I'd like that. I feel oftentimes that I haven't had one of those since leaving Grinnell.

You came into my journal in 2003/2004, then--right when I was investing myself heavily and seriously in the poetic process. It was quite a defining time.

You DJ! Very cool. What music do you spin?

i would love to hear about your process of writing poetry

Wow--that might actually take up the entire twelve hours. ;)

both the game and the actual trail. :) For about 10 bucks at most, you can get one from ebay. I recommend version II. I also have the Yukon trail, but it is impossible to win. I guess that is the point. I'd like to see the Amazon trail game too.

I don't know that I believe in much of anything. I'm a scientist. Part of that means being open minded to things science has not yet touched, and part of that is not deciding what you believe until at least some facts are in.
I'm on the fence. I've seen things, heard credible stories from people I trust, but have no definitive answer for the question.

Kind of like asking "Do you believe in God?" I always ask, "Which one? what do you mean by God? or believe, for that matter?"
I'm an atheist, in that I do not follow any religion, but I strongly suspect that there is something undefinable out there.

I'm not so much a believer in the importance of talent.

I'm more old-school about talent, in the sense of the parable of the talents. I worry I'm burying my talent in the ground, and lately I've been pondering how to resurrect it.

now I see you as more of a very nice academic who happens to be a hardcore black feminist

Historically, I've always seen myself as a feminist who happened to be black. This year saw at least one major incident that has radicalized me to some extent. (The feminist part hasn't changed, though.)

i'd offer you a drink most likely

This seems fairly universal! I wonder how long this has been part of the human script for hospitality.

I think the last computer game I paid for was Roller Coaster Tycoon. I've been trying to stay away from eBay for years (despite the fact that I'm considering using it soon as a place to dispose of some of my accumulated crap items).

So you haven't personally encountered any ghosts. How old are you? Do you expect to meet any in the span of your lifetime? :) I still adhere to the belief that we create our realities by the strength of our convictions (a circular belief system, I know), so for me, since I don't believe in ghosts, they don't exist. But for those who do, they do.

I'm an atheist, in that I do not follow any religion, but I strongly suspect that there is something undefinable out there.

You totally come for a bbq, um, when the weather's better.

How did I know I wanted ink, strangely I'm not sure. When I was teeny kid I saw a picture of a bull with a nose-ring and I declared (i was 3 at the time) "I want a earring for my nose!" One of my parent's friends had a lot of tats and the moment I saw them I just knew.

The first one is the Black Spiral Dancer, it reminds me not to be consumed by fighting against the evils of the world, lest I become evil myself.

All my body alterations feel like I find something that was lost, not as if they are new. Hard to explain but there's a sort of ceremonial deja vu involved when I get altered. The tongue stud was the most profound sensation of having recovered something that was missing, it was weird.

Oh, when I was 14 or so I entered a poetry contest for ALLOY magazine on a whim. Supposedly, Madonna picked the winning poem and signed it. I won. So I got my poem framed very fancily and autographed by Madonna. I've always been a bit embarassed of it, but Mom insisted on displaying it proudly in the house. She acts like it's a freaking Academy Award.

it reminds me not to be consumed by fighting against the evils of the world, lest I become evil myself.

That is certainly something one should remember.

Ceremonial deja vu sounds cool.

I admire your ability to just whip up food for guests. You are a great hostess.

I like watching figure skating, too. I think the winter Olympics are my favorite. (No, I can't say that, because I like gymnastics, too.)

You are not alone in nail biting, so far as I can see with other people's responses. I used to bite my nails horribly. Sometime around middle school I stopped. I think that was when I started getting really fancy with nail art.

Pick your brain about deck-building and/or poetry

We can totally do that sometime. :)

You and I have very similar viewpoints, I already know that.

There used to be this great soda fountain in my college's town called Cunningham's. That was the first place I ever had a malt. Unfortunately, my taste buds, never having encountered malt before, didn't appreciate it. Also unfortunately, Cunningham's doesn't have the soda counter anymore.

--I have met your wife! Isn't that odd? ;)

I have a nice butt.

I'll take your word for it. Apparently I have a nice butt, too (that's what several people have told me, and who am I to disagree with them?).

That's a neat story! Why be embarassed? If I were your mom, I'd be proud, too. (Not simply for the autograph, of course. ;)
