I realized something about myself today.

I opposed the death of Timothy McVeigh, on purely philosophical and ethical grounds. Yet, when reading that this man considered himself an anti-abortion martyr, and that he expected to receive a reward in heaven for murdering a doctor, my first reaction was to cheer his upcoming demise.

This is not good. But it's good to know. I've still got a lot of work to do on my inner person.

Yeah, I'm just against capital punishment, period. But if we're gonna have it, then we have to distribute it fairly, eh?

I am not completely against capital punishment - as I often think of exceptions rather than rules - but I had a similar reaction when hearing about this guy. I was happy about his coming death. tho when I heard that he had died... I was more subdued.
