Amish are allowed to ride in vehicles - just not drive them. Actually it depends on the local pastor/priest/head religious person and that person's interpretation of the rules. Some can use buttons, others can only use pins. Some can use karosene heaters... some can use freezers with blocks of ice. It was not uncommon to see Amish in vans where I grew up in Ohio. Tho it was more common to see them in their own buggies.
A) I'm surprised that forty positive tests constitutes an "outbreak".
B) Amish are like practioners any other religion; they vary widely in their practice of their religion. My Amish (or related sect) cousins will travel in cars for specific trips; the key in their mind is that it's an occasional thing, not an everyday thing. It's not surprising that they were in a bus, IMO. They probably had a non-Amish driver, a practice similar to Jews hiring goyim to do the chores on the Sabbath.
C) Cool, and I'm glad they don't have to get a huge piece of photo negative in order to do the study.
D) So what does this mean? We should study, or not? In any case, it's too late; I don't think my getting a degree at this point would change anything. :-)
One- yay ohio, and two: my mother has 3 little amish girls and one non-amish individual come clean the house once a month, they have the non-amish woman so she can drive. I remember the story when an amish boy took his father's buggy to the local bar, and got pulled over for driving drunk on the way home...
