Alas, there is no option for "Damn it, I don't know... stupid guys (mutter)" so I shan't respond.

I have a problem with participating in a poll that suggests that anyone who's slept with a certain number of people is a "ho," even if it's a joke. If the author of the poll wants to call herself one for whatever reason, that's personal choice, but I'll be damned if I'm a "ho" because I've enjoyed sex with a certain number of people. It's unnecessary and stupid baggage.

Sorry it hit such a bad nerve.

I could tell from the context of the post that the term was meant in a tongue-in-cheek manner.

It's not a term I would use for myself, personally, but at the same time I call myself a chick, and a lot of hardcore feminists would have a problem with that choice of language, too.

I made mention of the poll because I thought the question was interesting, as well as the news story that prompted it. I know [livejournal.com profile] autodidactic meant no harm.

I also think it's an interesting question, but I felt like "ho" gave a sense of overall shame to it. I'm tired of shame being attached to sexuality in general and particularly women's sexuality. I could tell it was a joke with harmless intent, but I'm not into self-applying misogynistic terms as a joke. I'm fine with individuals choosing to reclaim slurs for themselves, but I'm not personally interested in wearing the various degrading words that could be applied to me. The world is still male-dominated (and probably will continue to be, so long as men on average are able to physically overpower women) and there are plenty of people who use such terms with no trace of irony.

My comments on this have been personal opinion; I wanted to register my viewpoint. I'm not saying the poll should be re-written, how other people should feel, etc.
