I like how the Edwards article refers to New Englanders as "Flinty". What the hell does that mean?

I thought a wisconsin senator passed legislation banning birth control in college health centers because it encouraged promiscuity. I guess it didn't pass.

That's a good question. It's almost certainly meant as a compliment. Flint is what's used to strike a spark. Strong, sturdy. Reliable, even. I get a sense of individualism, too.
