Why is this even a quandary? I'm sorry if it interferes with our vision of Washington the Christlike first president of the US civic religion, but if the reality was his slaves had to pass through a tunnel so guests wouldn't see them going into and out of the house, it needs to be seen.
Actually, i'm kind of surprised more legislators don't get into fist fights. When someone can't win a debate they resort to procedural trickery to get their way, and even though i often applaud the results obtained that way it's still kind of an assholish thing to do.
