To expound upon the Libby poll....

My option of "Bush will never be impeached" is there really to find out who holds this idea. Of course, that doesn't tell me why those people believe the way they do.

To me, the belief that Bush will never be impeached automatically elevates him above the law and absolves him of any prior, current, or future guilt. One might as well be saying, "He could order a hit job on someone, and it doesn't matter, because he's more the Teflon president than Reagan was. No matter what he does, he'll never be brought to justice, so why even bother?"

That type of cynicism is what kills social democracy. The idea that all governments are corrupt (so citizens shouldn't be too upset when corruption is exposed) should not insulate the government officials who are guilty of plundering the public good. I know that this administration has given liberals and other progressives what has been termed "outrage fatigue," but that should not prevent people from mustering the will to do what is best for the country. Resigning oneself and one's countrymen to a power-mad, incompetent and perhaps criminal administration is one of the most unpatriotic things one can do, IMO.

If I was a congressman, you'd better bet I'd be talking to Conyers and requesting impeachment proceedings begin immediately. Its the cowardly Dems who are dropping the ball. There's just no good reason NOT to get rid of Dick and George, they are an embarassment to the this country, and clearly are out of control.

Can he be charged in regular courts after he's out?

Yeah, I think it made little sense to Impeach until Pelosi became speaker. It was something like 15 people down until you got a decent human being into office via impeachment at that point. But now it's just George and uncle Dickie.

If they Impeached W and Dick that would put Pelosi in the white house which would be awesome for many reasons. Some of which include;

*She'd be the first woman President. That is good on its own, but that also eliminates the stigma of being the "first" non-white-man President. Then Obama doesn't have to deal with as much bullshit.

*Her stint would be so short that she couldn't possibly fuck anything up, thus depriving the Right of much needed ammo.

*Dude, Pelosi rocks

It's not that simple. They'd have to remove Dick from office before he had a chance to nominate another V.P., which he can do.

I don't know why it seems that Bush is the Teflon president, but it does appear that way. Look at all the mistakes he's made. Look at all the balls he's dropped. Look at how outraged we've been for so long and how some people STILL SUPPORT HIS IGNORANCE AND STUPIDITY.

If it hasn't happened yet, it's not going to happen. He could walk out in broad daylight and shoot Nelson Mandela in the face, and people would still stand by him saying "He's the President." He could order a bomb be dropped on the White House while he was out, but Laura and the girls were home, and still, he would not only not go to jail, but he wouldn't be impeached.

We need to get the office back and use that to our advantage, rather than squander it.

There's a quote in here that does a better job of saying one of the points I was trying to make.
