Of course, there is no way in any flying hell either senator from my state will even consider changing their stance on this issue. Thank christ I have Dennis Kucinich as a Congressman... he at least has half a brain.
How is it a non-issue? It's an assault on the First Amendment.
For the first time in a decade, the Senate is finally browbeaten enough to vote for such an amendment, but it would fly in the face of the Bill of Rights. The flag is a symbol. Burning it in dissent is a protected form of expression. Burning the flag is itself a symbolic act.
Extremists in the conservative wings have been waiting to see when they could get this pushed through, and this is as close as they've been.
And evenso, I don't think burning the flag makes the point people think it does. But if other people think it does, then I guess that's why people do it.
