In any discussion of race, it is always good to listen to the different arguments because, even if you don't agree, there is usually something to learn or some new point to consider. Too often, the stuff whites can't remember are the things blacks can't forget.

Some of us do remember-- even those of us who weren't old enough to be around for it. For those of us that do, there's the problem of repetition-- which, inevitably, leads to the problem of desensitization.
There's "you can't win for losing," and there's "you can't win for losing." We're all fucked by fate, just in different ways.

Date: 2006-04-17 01:09 am (UTC)And then after berating this other guy, he posts in his journal about his neighbors who are Chinese, and how they call them the Wangs, and follows all these stereotypes. He's not being hateful, but he is laughing about it. And that just hits me the wrong way. It feels like he's trying to defend people from discrimination, but only certain people. And that bothers me. All people have to deal with discrimination.
