past blast

For kicks, I picked up the Ann Arbor News education clippings folder here at the AADL for 1975 (as my birthday is coming up soon). I had no idea that area high schools once had majors and minors.

"A major sequence consists of three units (or six semesters) of study successfully completed in grades nine through 12 within a department or single field. A minor is two units," said News School Reporter Mary Jo Frank.

My school system (Airport) had a similar curriculum, but it was not described so collegiately.

Confess!

Does anyone here remember the '70s TV show Supertrain?

Please tell me. Please. Tell me all about it.

raspberry indeed

Comcast's On Demand currently has a flick called American Raspberry (1977) in its Free Movies section.

It's in the vein of Amazon Women on the Moon, and much of the flick is funny with the added bonus of '70s nostalgia. However, there were two or three jokes that just went beyond the pale. One of the very first sketches parodies assassination/sniping ala Death Race 2000. Amazed as I was to see such material unearthed in the current political environment, I was just stunned that anyone at any time thought that the subject could engender a joke, at least in that context.

(no subject)

By the way, I'm flabbergasted that Maude came out only two years after the debut of the Mary Tyler Moore show. They ran concurrantly. I have some memory of Maude; maybe the difference of a year made all the difference. But maybe it was the content as well.
