What do you do when you fear you're being taken for granted?

Usually, breathe a sigh of relief, because it means I'm no longer being micromanaged.

Let the person know, albeit gently.

The obvious answer is, of course, tell the person that. Sometimes, it helps if you can come up with some specific examples, and also if you can come up with some specific suggestions for what you'd like to see change.

Communicate that.
Listen to their responses and work things out.
Otherwise, get rid of them.

why, I get snippy. what do you do?

[identity profile] novapsyche.livejournal.com 2005-08-03 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I get withdrawn, and quiet, and weepy. Not necessarily in that order.

Then I start telling myself what I will and won't stand for.

Who would ever take you for granted?

I get annoyed, then pissed, then rationalize, then I take it out on whomever is taking me for granted.

I doubt this'll surprise you, but I get up in the other party's face and ask what's up. Depending on the situation it can be either in a confrontational or information-gathering mode, but I want to know the why before I decide what to do about it.

Depends on the context
Is it work, home or play?

[identity profile] novapsyche.livejournal.com 2005-08-04 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Um, play?

[identity profile] silversliver.livejournal.com 2005-08-04 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes I try to talk it out. Sometimes I get passive-aggressive about it, by leaving the things I'm being taken for granted about undone. Depends on how mature I'm feeling and how much conscious thought I'm putting into it. Unfortunately, the latter is the default.
