stats & strategy

174 pieces out to 44 markets. 9 of those pieces are currently simultaneously submitted.

I've gotten to the point where my goal now is not just to publish but to try to enter work in markets with low acceptance ratios. However, my main criteria when submitting are the markets' turnaround times. I'd much rather have as much quality work in circulation than to have it clutched by journals that disallow simultaneous submissions but have over a 100-day wait for a response.

This has meant that lately I've been submitting to online magazines rather than print publications. I'd rather the latter for my CV, but not if the response times are unreasonable.

Hard stats for those who are interested. Scroll down for the numbers.

The best of both would be getting published in a prestigious print periodical that also has an on-line version so that you can include a hyperlink to the poem on the html version of your cv.

True. Thanks for pointing that out.

(I haven't even converted my CV to html yet--I still have the majority of my early publishing credits in hard copy, unlisted; I'll have to hunt in my sister's basement to get the issues in hand.)
