Even hope isn't left in this Pandora's box.

For those playing at home, the [livejournal.com profile] news post re: FB & Twitter maxxed out at 10K comments. Users have since gone to this entry at [livejournal.com profile] lj_releases, as it pertains to the aforementioned update.

It's been ten days, & no one from LJ has officially replied to the near-unified response of the userbase. Not one peep.

I'm in the process of importing my content to Dreamwidth. (Unfortunately, things are not going smoothly due to some encoding issues. I hope to have this resolved by end of week.)

The arrogance of the higher-ups is just amazing.

Oh hello person on my friendsfriends page that I recognize from writing comms of yore--if you end up having questions/needing assistance or something, feel free to ask me?

A plethora of codes can be found here.

What's the draw to dreamwidth? I've seen multiple people jumping ship for it.

It's the main alternative to LJ because the owners/maintainers of the site are folks who used to be employed by LJ but were sacked in 2007 when the company was sold. Their vision is to keep Dreamwidth without ads, which means catering to their userbase, the way LJ used to.

There are other draws: they use the same code LJ does, so what works there works here & vice-versa; they're committed to closing known bugs; the site still feels like a community as a whole as the system demands invite codes. I'm sure more reasons exist as to why Dreamwidth is LJ's successor, but from my perspective that's why I'm transitioning there.

I just saw this post by one of the outspoken dissenters (&, incidentally, the person to whom [livejournal.com profile] brenden outed his trolling sockpuppet journal). The entry includes a nice table that compares perks of either site.

Honestly, my response to all of this is frustration. I've been building a friends base in LJ since 2001. I have multiple friends jumping ship to Dreamwidth, and I'm not sure how well their RSS syndication works, how they receive UN/PW for friends-locked stuff via RSS, and I do NOT want to add another $(@*#&# friends' page to try to keep up with.

Rawr.

But I totally understand why people are jumping ship. I'm just pissy because I'm inconvenienced.
