The Loud Silence of Feminists -- Why have mainstream feminists not come to the defense of Michelle Obama?

Also, as it seems some people weren't aware, Fox News called her Obama's "baby mama". If you click the link, you will find interesting comments by fellow Americans, including this gem:

Are you people serious. I think they just said it because Obama and Mama rhyme.

The folks who call this racist are probably racist themselves and are just projecting what the
[sic] really think deep down inside.

Of course, you're kidding. The Obama's have put their political philosophy out to the world in no uncertain terms. If you do not interpret their stated intentions and promises to the nation to be straight from the Communist Manifesto, please read the document in that light. They are Marxists through-and-through. Whether or not that is a good thing is a matter of judgment. I'm not stating a position either way. But, let's tell the truth about their political aspirations.

You don't need a card in your wallet to be an active, thinking Communist, Democrat, Republican, or anything else.

So instead of empirical evidence, you talk out the side of your mouth.

Margaret Sanger was a Socialist. That doesn't mean she wasn't a feminist.

I don't see how recommending that you read the Communist Manifesto and compare it with the espoused philosophy of the Obama's is talking out of the side of my mouth. Seems pretty direct to me.

Socialists and "feminists" have more politics in common than do the Obama's and "feminists."

By the way, what is a "feminist?" And no "talking out the side of your mouth."

My reply to you was in response to your comment to [livejournal.com profile] eleri, who quite reasonably asked for you to back up your statement. You continue to make wild conflations. I suggest you actually make an argument instead of just posting your opinion.

Why do you have the word feminist in quotes? It's an established term that's been around for decades. To me, a feminist is a person who is interested in changing societal beliefs to where men and women are seen as equals.

Your profile says you like Bob Dylan. Did you know that Dylan actually endorsed Obama?

[identity profile] dadspeak.livejournal.com 2008-06-22 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I did "back up" my statement. Someone just doesn't want to do the reading. Your blind, biased rationale leads you to hopeless deductions such as the concept of equality of the sexes. There can never be "equality" of the sexes. That is not to say that one is superior to the other. Actually, as a practical construction, equality is simply impossible to achieve. "a" does not simply equal "a." If you think that it does, then it's time for YOU to make an argument.

Regarding Dylan, if one were to eschew a musician's politics to the point of totally rejecting their music (or vice versa) one would have no practical use for an iPod.

By the way - I'm curious regarding your seeping hostility. I have made no judgmental comments regarding the Obama's, Communism, feminism, or you.

You have made opinionated statements as though they were established facts.

I have my guard up because two people have asked you to supply evidence to your statements (myself and [livejournal.com profile] eleri) and you have refused to comply.

If you want to have a nice debate, substantiate your opinions. If you want to argue just to argue, you might want to post your ideas in your own journal.

I have long spoken about feminism in my journal for years. You can look at all of the ones I have so marked by clicking the tag above. My ideas about feminism have evolved as I have, over the years, and it is a continuing conversation.

You have your guard up because you are a "feminist." I don't "comply" with "feminists."

What you have going is not a conversation. It is a one-way street to nowhere.

Peace. Out.
